Virginia Business
December 2004
Who
says germs have to be dirty? Novozymes Biolog-icals
selects and grows microbes that promote natural processes
to clean and deodorize in ways that are designed to
be safe for the environment.
Partnering with major industry suppliers, the company,
which has a research and development lab in Salem, is
making the benefits of biotechnology accessible to consumers,
institutions and industry through the commercialization
of its research.
A few examples of commercial products the company has
developed include a bio-product that degrades grease
to keep industrial and commercial drains clog-free,
microorganisms that penetrate cracks and crevices to
keep floors and carpets cleaner, and a natural organism
that helps golf course greens remain free of fungus.
The company has more than 30 scientists in Virginia
with expertise in microbial physiology, microbial genetics,
organic chemistry and plant pathology. It also maintains
a close working relationship with Virginia Tech.
