Circuit City Stores Inc., a Richmond-based retailer of consumer electronics, introduced an incentive program for repeat customers making purchases at Circuit City, or elsewhere, using a Circuit City Visa card. Customers will earn points toward reward certificates the more they use the card. Circuit City's chief rival, Best Buy of Minneapolis, Minn., unveiled its "Reward Zone" program in July 2003. Elizabeth A. "Betsy" Duke, executive vice president of SouthTrust Bank in Virginia Beach, was elected chairwoman of the American Bankers Association. Duke is the first chairwoman in the history of the ABA. (Richmond Times-Dispatch)

Howard Feiertag, an instructor in hospitality and tourism management at Virginia Tech, received the Excellence in Sales and Marketing Strategy Award from the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association. Feiertag was noted for his 40-year career in the hospitality industry and his role in educating three generations of industry professionals. (Press release)

The Virginia Biotechnology Association named Mediatech Inc. of Herndon Biotechnology Company of the Year. The company is involved in production of cellular transplantation processing materials and holds a portfolio of products including cellgroŽ, a cell culture media. (PRNewswire)

Meyera E. Oberndorf, mayor of Virginia Beach, received the 2004 Award for Public Service from the International Economic Development Council. Selected from a field of 1,000 candidates, she was cited as an advocate for economic development in the public sector. In 2003 Virginia Beach was the scene of 65 company locations or expansions with over $200 million in capital investment and the creation of 2,660 new jobs. (Press release)

WebSurveyor, a Herndon software company, was named to Software Magazine's Software 500, a list of the world's top software services providers, for the second consecutive year.
