Armfield, Harrison & Thomas,
a Leesburg-based insurance broker, was rated as
the sixth-largest practice in the country for
directors and officers liability by Tillinghast-Towers
Perrin’s Directors and Officers Liability
Survey. This is the 11th consecutive year the
firm has been noted as a top 10 D&O broker.
The survey also named AH&T among the top five
brokers servicing the technology, governmental

Framatome ANP, a Lynchburg
provider of services and support to the nuclear
power industry, adopted the name of its parent
company, AREVA. Better known outside the United
States, AREVA is a Paris-based energy company
and united its affiliated companies, operating

a private college in Lexington, raised $242.6
million during its latest capital campaign.
The school raised $168 million during the quiet

Virginia Tech has again
teamed with Apple Computer of Cupertino, Calif.
to construct a new supercomputer at the Blacksburg
campus. The new high-performance machine will
be built with Apple’s 64-bit Xserve G5
computer, a smaller unit than the G5s Tech used
to build a supercomputer that performs 10.3
trillion operations per second, third fastest
in the world. The Xserve units are expected
to produce a more efficient, faster machine.
