Lynchburg packaging company
purchases Australian peer
Crown Simplimatic Inc., a Lynchburg-based machinery packaging and systems engineering company, purchased Anderson Pacific, headquartered in Silverwater, Australia. Terms were not disclosed.
Although the two companies have worked together for years, the purchase will help expand Crown Simplimatic's service and production to the Asian Pacific.
Established in 1988, Anderson Pacific manufactures conveyers and components for beverage production lines. Crown Simplimatic, a private company with more than 1,000 employees and $200 million in annual sales, recently spun off from Philadelphia-based Crown, Cork & Seal.

Dataline Inc., a systems integration firm in Richmond, acquired InterCoastal Technologies, a Virginia Beach-based firm, for an undisclosed amount.
Heilig-Meyers Co. of Richmond purchased 21 Hub Furniture stores in Baltimore, Washington, Fredericksburg and Hampton Roads from Reliable Stores Inc. of Columbia, Md., for $18 million.
Hilb, Rogal, and Hamilton Co., a Glen Allen insurance agency, plans to acquire Beiersdoerfer Meadows Inc., a Birmingham, Ala., benefits firm, for an undisclosed amount.
ICF Kaiser International Inc., a Fairfax engineering firm, plans to acquire ICT Spectrum Constructors Inc., a construction service provider in Boise, Idaho, for an undisclosed amount.
ITC Learning Corp. of Herndon plans to acquire Turn-key Training Technologies Inc., a Michigan-based software developer and distributor, for $1.7 million.
Otey and Otey, a Williamsburg law firm, joined with Jones, Blechman, Woltz & Kelly, a Newport-News law firm. Terms were not disclosed.
W.C. Brown Insurance Services of Rocky Mount is being acquired by BB&T Insurance Services Inc. of Raleigh, N.C. Terms were not disclosed.
Law firm and university team up to train engineers
Lawyers will team up with future engineers this fall in a partnership between a Richmond-based law firm and Virginia Commonwealth University.
Lawyers from Hunton & Williams will teach Science, Technology and Law, an elective course at VCU's new engineering school. The junior-level course will cover legal problems that can arise from new technology.
College House Inc., a sportswear manufacturer, plans to move its headquarters to Richmond from Westbury, N.Y.
Greenbriar Nurseries, a family owned retail and wholesale nursery based in Talcott, W.Va., plans to open a 13-acre operation in Roanoke.
Long-Airdox Co., a multinational manufacturer of coal mining equipment, is moving its corporate headquarters to Blacksburg.
NASA's Langley Research Center in Hampton plans to buy out 125 to 175 civil service employees because of budget cuts.
Reynolds Metals Co. laid off 17 employees at its packaging technology center in Chesterfield County as part of a restructuring plan.

Salem computer company lands overseas contract
The Netherlands awarded a $12 million contract to a Salem-based buyer and seller of used computer equipment. R. Frazier Inc. will place 140,000 secondhand computers in Dutch public classrooms. The company will share the contract with its overseas counterpart, R. Frazier Europe.
The two-year contract -- the largest in the company's history -- is being administered by the Trust for Promoting Computers in Education, a nonprofit organization.

ABB, Midlothian: $190 million from the Berkshire Power Co. to build, maintain, and operate a plant in Massachusetts.
MRJ Inc., Fairfax: $20 million from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration for analysis and design technologies.
Spacehab Inc., Vienna: $60.7 million from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration for research and mission support.
Tidewater Construction Corp., Virginia Beach: $14.9 million from the Army Corps of Engineers for a bridge replacement project.
Colonial Sport Boats Inc., a Williamsburg-based supplier of boat stabilizing systems, plans to offer 400,000 shares of common stock at $2.50 per share in an initial public offering.
