Located strategically within the heart of Hampton Roads, a region of 1.6 million people, Suffolk is a land of many opportunities. As Virginia’s largest city with 430 square miles, Suffolk’s appeal is its diversity of residential, recreational and commercial offerings.

The rapidly growing residential and commercial developments across the city are creating demand for new office, industrial and retail opportunities. With affordable, well-located sites and easy access to regional, national and international destinations, you can see why Suffolk is a highly desirable place to do business.

In 2006, new and expanding businesses made more than $95 million in new capital investments in the city, creating more than 950 new jobs. In the fall of 2007, the MAST Center Office Park will open with three new buildings, setting the stage for further growth by the modeling and simulation technology cluster

In addition, Suffolk has seen significant new interest from national commerce park developers because of the new APM Terminals, which will open in September 2007. There are four major developments actively under construction: 1) Bridgeway Commerce Center: three buildings totaling 425,000 square feet, 2) Northgate Logistics Center: two buildings totaling 300,000 square feet, 3) Virginia Regional Commerce Park: four buildings totaling 1 million square feet, and 4) Virginia Commerce Center: three buildings totaling 1.3 million square feet.

Clearly the future is bright for economic activity across the City of Suffolk. Suffolk’s small-town charm and big-city amenities are a rare combination. Our Historic Downtown offers a rich blend of historic attractions, art studios, small shops and a wide variety of dining establishments. During calendar year 2006, downtown Suffolk added 19 new businesses, including the Red Thread Studio, Primo 116 Restaurant, 1 Foot 2 Foot Spa and Medical Center, and Uniquely Leo’s Specialty Shop.

As you can see, there is significant new commercial and industrial growth throughout Suffolk. By managing our residential and commercial development through “smart growth” best practices, we continue to offer families and businesses plenty of room to live, work and play in Suffolk. Indeed, as the saying goes, “It’s a good time to be in Suffolk”. Visit www.YesSuffolk.com for the latest updates and news releases.
