Norfolk
Norfolk becoming a business magnet
for innovative companies
Norfolk’s booming — in every direction,
and we’re celebrating with a development-friendly
urban attitude. Our inventive business base, collaborative
ingenuity and unique assets continue to reenergize.
It’s apparent in our new world-class Half Moone
Cruise and Celebration Center; the sparkling new residential
projects; high-tech research centers; mixed-use towers
and new logistically smart office parks and a successful
tax abatement program for rehabilitation of industrial,
commercial and residential properties. All this and
a refreshing lifestyle on a recreational waterfront
complete with glamorous performance venues plus Virginia’s
Opera, Stage Company, Symphony and Ballet. All complemented
by the region’s hip restaurant and visual arts
scene to keep you cultured and entertained.
Greater downtown’s growing skyline
Under development is Wachovia Center, the new 22-story,
mixed-use complex is adding over 250,000 square feet
of office space, which is in high demand. Our business
and tourism markets will benefit from the new Norfolk
Hilton Hotel and Conference Center and Residence Inn.
In 2008, construction of the Light Rail is to begin,
and will connect the medical center through downtown
and points beyond. Belmont at Freemason and Granby Tower
will add more than 600 housing units in transit-oriented
developments. By year’s end, Dominion Enterprises’
new headquarters will be filled with 1,600 technology
professionals. You’ll need to visit to get the
full impact of our changing city that winds along the
waterfront from the Elizabeth River to the Chesapeake
Bay.
The HUBZone advantage delivers
Our logistically focused office parks are conveniently
located near the Norfolk International Airport, our
dynamic shipping port, which serves 95 percent of the
world’s shipping lines, Norfolk Southern’s
rail system and interstate highway access. HUBZone properties
offer federal contractors exceptional advantages. Three
new office / flex parks are delivering more than 240,000
square feet of strategically positioned space. Commander
Corporate Center’s Class A space is perfect for
defense-intense companies, and will be adjacent to BlackHawk
Products Group; Central Business Park’s flexible
products and terms allow for ownership in the center
of the action; and the Church Street Executive Center
offers almost immediate access Downtown.
Two new research parks
High-tech research is underway at The Innovations Research
Park @ ODU in the Old Dominion University Village, where
Phase II is under construction. Also, the Marie V. McDemmond
Center for Applied Research on the Norfolk State University
RISE Campus has been completed and future campus centers
will offer state-of-the-art capabilities including high-speed
networks, university access and university-affiliated
technology transfer programs. Tidewater Community College
and Virginia Wesleyan, both headquartered in Norfolk,
are expanding their campuses and scope. Eastern Virginia
Medical School and our medical complex, which includes
the new Sentara Heart Hospital, are recognized nationally
for innovation. |
