The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) promotes Fairfax County as a leading center of commerce and trade and the technology hub of the east coast. The FCEDA provides a wide array of information and free services designed to help American and international businesses locate or expand commercial operations in Fairfax County. A thriving business community builds the commercial tax base and helps Fairfax County fund award-winning public services that support our quality of life.
Through the first three quarters of 2006, the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority worked with 104 companies that announced they have added or would add more than 4,300 jobs to the county economy. Most of the companies are in technology or professional services fields.
The largest announcements came from accounting and consulting giant PricewaterhouseCoopers (488 jobs); next-generation Internet consultant Command Information (390 jobs); broadband-over-power-line technology developer Communications Technologies, which is one of six Fairfax County companies on the Black Enterprise magazine list of the 100 largest African American-owned companies in the nation (150 jobs); and Sunrise Senior Living, which is the world's largest provider of senior living arrangements (114 jobs).
Also creating jobs in Fairfax County in the first three quarters were 12 firms from South Korea, three from Israel, two each from India, Japan and the United Kingdom, and one each from Germany and Switzerland.
Employers now provide more than 600,000 payroll jobs in Fairfax County. The county has more than 104 million square feet of office space, making it one of the largest suburban office markets in the nation. |
