Meet in the ‘City of Firsts’
Treat your meeting delegates to a city where there’s
never a lack of things to do. Hampton, located in the
center of the Hampton Roads region, offers more than
100 attractions within minutes of downtown. See why
this city’s nickname is the “City of Firsts,”
(hint: it was the birthplace of NASA, site of the first
English-style Christmas in the American colony and the
first training ground for America’s astronauts.)
Take a look at the city’s nearly 400 year-history
at the Hampton History Museum, see a 3 billion-year-old
moon rock at the Virginia Air and Space Center, cruise
the beautiful harbor on the Miss Hampton II, or trace
African-American history at the oldest African-American
museum in the U.S., the Hampton University Museum.
The Hampton Roads Convention Center opened in 2005
and is located among one of the city’s best dining
and entertainment locations. The Power Plant of Hampton
Roads, a retail and entertainment development; is anchored
by the Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World. Hampton is also
a convenient location for any side trips to Colonial
Williamsburg and the shoreline of Virginia Beach.

No two meetings are exactly the same. And the Hampton
Roads Convention Center offers the high-tech equipment,
helpful staff and media that you need to pull off successful
events. The center offers more than 160,000 square feet
of flexible meeting and exhibition space, capable of
handling conferences, small meetings, and large consumer
and trade shows.
The center, which opened in 2005, has a 108,000-square-foot
exhibition hall that can be divided into three sections
and oversized freight doors make it easy to move exhibits
in and out of the facility. The 28,000-square-foot ballroom
can seat up to 2,000 people in a banquet setting.
The center is equipped with state-of-the-art audiovisual
services, including multi-media projection and plasma
screens, cameras, high-speed Internet and a wired Cyber
café, computerized teleprompter systems, adjustable
lighting and all the conference technology needed to
host a high-class event.
The center’s location is convenient. It has 3,000
free parking spaces and is within walking distance of
2,500 hotel rooms. The center is adjacent to the Hampton
Coliseum, which features an open arena floor that can
hold 11,000 people. Also, a $200 million Crossroads
Development project will bring another full-service
hotel and 2,000-seat theater to the convention center
area. Just blocks away from the convention center, the
Peninsula Town Center is being built. That will bring
unique shopping and dining to Hampton.
